The DFL participated in the 1st National Congress on Prefabrication in Concrete, held at ITeCons in Coimbra on October 5–6, 2025. The event gathered leading companies, researchers, and professionals to discuss the future of prefabricated concrete construction in Portugal.
José Pedro Sousa and Pedro MArtins, DFL coordinator and DFL researcher, co-moderated the session “Digital Prefabrication with Concrete in Architecture”, which explored how digital tools and processes are reshaping architectural design and construction with prefabricated concrete components.
As part of the session, Marco Rosa presented the paper “3DCP Prefabrication: Opportunities in Portugal”, co-authored with master’s students Endryl Santos Rodrigues and Miguel Oliveira do Vale, under the supervision of José Pedro Sousa. The presentation explored current challenges and potentials of 3D concrete printing (3DCP) as a viable method for prefabricated construction in the Portuguese context.
The congress was a major success, with the participation and support of the country’s most prominent players in the construction and materials industry. A parallel exhibition showcased innovative products and solutions, highlighting the vitality of a sector that is actively adapting to the pressing challenges of climate change and the need for sustainable building practices.
