The Digital Fabrication Lab (DFL) is set to return to full operation following a four-year hiatus, thanks to the recent rent of a space in the city center by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP). The eagerly anticipated move marks a significant milestone for the DFL, which has been without a dedicated workspace since 2020.
The new facility has different spatial conditions to support the DFL's diverse activities. Among its features are designated areas such as a computer room, meeting room, printers, and a dedicated VR room. However, the highlight of the space is undoubtedly the expansive double-height area, purpose-built to accommodate the lab's collection of robots and CNC machines.
Beyond its functional attributes, the new space also offers a cozy outdoor area, perfect for both work and relaxation during sunny days and warm nights. This addition is expected to provide a conducive environment for collaboration and innovation among DFL members.
With the necessary infrastructure now in place, the DFL is gearing up to resume its fabrication work, leveraging state-of-the-art equipment and resources. The FAUP's initiative in securing this space underscores its commitment to fostering creativity and research within the field of architecture and design.
