From 25-29 January, the DFL organized an intensive Workshop for 70 students of the Beirut Arab University from Lebanon. Called as “Digital Tools and Robotics in Architecture”, this initiative took place at the DFL and UPTEC buildings in the center of Porto and was an introduction to the use of robotic fabrication technologies, exploring the resources of the DFL.
Divided in 3 groups, the participantes investigated 2 different digital design and construction strategies:
- robotic assembly with cork bricks (Amorim Isolamentos)
- robotic cutting with wood (Valchromat)
- robotic milling with EPS
The first 2 days were dedicated to develop design proposals in the UPTEC building, which were presented on a mid-term review on Wednesday 27, at the FAUP. The participants then voted and elected 1 solution from each topic to be robotically manufactured at the 1:1 scale at the DFL. The Workshop ended with the material production of 3 structures with 1.20 x 2.00 meters. Besides the work in the Workshop, the participants had the opportunity to spend some time visiting the most important landmarks of the city. This event was thus an exciting and enriching experience for everyone involved in it.
